Macroscopic observables and the Born rule I. Long run frequencies
We clarify the role of the Born rule in the Copenhagen Interpretation of quantum mechanics by deriving it from Bohr’s doctrine of classical concepts, translated into the following mathematical statement: a quantum system described by a noncommutative C-algebra of observables is empirically accessible only through associated commutative C-algebras. The Born probabilities emerge as the relative f...
متن کاملDetection of macroscopic entanglement by correlation of local observables.
We propose a correlation of local observables on many sites in macroscopic quantum systems. By measuring the correlation one can detect, if any, superposition of macroscopically distinct states, which we call macroscopic entanglement, in arbitrary quantum states that are (effectively) homogeneous. Using this property, we also propose an index of macroscopic entanglement.
متن کاملMacroscopic observables and Lorentz violation in discrete quantum gravity
This article concerns the fate of local Lorentz invariance in quantum gravity, particularly for approaches in which a discrete structure replaces continuum spacetime. Some features of standard quantum mechanics, presented in a sum-over-histories formulation, are reviewed, and their consequences for such theories are discussed. It is argued that, if the individual histories of a theory give bad ...

متن کاملConnecting Macroscopic Observables and Microscopic Assembly Events in Amyloid Formation Using Coarse Grained Simulations
The pre-fibrillar stages of amyloid formation have been implicated in cellular toxicity, but have proved to be challenging to study directly in experiments and simulations. Rational strategies to suppress the formation of toxic amyloid oligomers require a better understanding of the mechanisms by which they are generated. We report Dynamical Monte Carlo simulations that allow us to study the ea...
